  • Pack SIBBG approved bear-proof panniers or other food storage devices onto pack animals whenever outfitting in bear habitat.
  • Increase storage capacity in food containers by planning and repackaging foods.
  • Report all bear incidents to local authorities.
  • Find out what backcountry facilities exist at your wilderness trailhead or destination.

*"Food" includes food, trash, recyclables, toiletries, candles, first-aid kits, window cleaner, pet food, dirty dishes, dirty diapers, baby wipes, scented tissue, air freshener, bottled and canned beverages, canned food, coolers (full or empty), mosquito repellent, lipstick, tobacco products, and any other items with a scent.
